The IMAT retains its classical, high-stakes structure: one standardized exam, one national ranking system, and exactly one opportunity per year.
2. Exam Breakdown & Mathematical Guessing Strategy
The IMAT is a 100-minute paper exam with 60 multiple-choice questions (Biology 23 Qs, Chemistry 15 Qs, Physics/Math 13 Qs, Logic 5 Qs, Reading/GK 4 Qs). Max score: 90.0 points. EU Minimum Cutoff: 20.0 points.
Scoring rules: +1.5 points (correct), -0.4 points (incorrect), 0 points (blank). Because the penalty (-0.4) is mild compared to the reward (+1.5), expected value theory dictates that if you can eliminate even one incorrect option out of five, guessing yields a mathematically positive return (+0.075 points on average).
3. Three Irreversible Registration Decisions
Select either Medicine/Dentistry OR Veterinary Medicine. Cross-overs are impossible.
If testing in Italy, your #1 preferred university becomes your mandatory physical test venue.
