IMAT 2026 Registration Guide: Deadlines, Universitaly Steps and Test Centres
Registration is open. This guide brings together the official calendar, the EU and Non-EU application routes, the complete Universitaly workflow, test-centre rules and the documents to save before the deadline.

Submit early and convert the deadline to your local time zone. The IMAT examination is on 29 September 2026, not the older 30 September announcement.

Choose the right route
EU / EU-equivalent candidates
You participate in a national ranking. List every Medicine or Dentistry course you would genuinely accept, in real preference order. The system can offer the highest option on your list that is available to your score and rank.
- The preference order becomes irreversible at the deadline.
- At least 20 points is required for eligibility, but it does not guarantee admission.
- For a test in Italy, your first Italian preference normally determines the host university.
Non-EU resident abroad
You normally compete for one university only: the institution used for your Universitaly visa pre-enrolment. Your IMAT application must match that university, even where your examination takes place.
- Complete the university's pre-evaluation where required.
- Submit visa pre-enrolment for the same target university.
- Follow that university's local Non-EU ranking and enrolment deadlines after the test.
Universitaly application: step by step
Log into Universitaly
Use the account connected to your international pre-enrolment, where applicable. Select the English-taught Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary procedure for 2026/27.
Verify personal information
Your name, date and place of birth, citizenship, residence, Codice Fiscale and passport data must match your official documents exactly.
Select the competition route
Choose Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry, or Veterinary Medicine. This choice becomes irrevocable when registration closes.
Enter university preferences
EU and EU-equivalent candidates should list every course they would genuinely accept, in real preference order. Non-EU candidates resident abroad compete for the university used for visa pre-enrolment.
Select a test centre
For an Italian test, the first Italian preference normally determines the host university. For an overseas test, choose an available centre in the live form.
Declare a language certificate
Declare only a qualifying certificate that you already hold. It may be checked and can be used as a tie-break.
Confirm the application
The final confirmed version before the deadline controls. Download the application receipt and save your full preference order.
Complete payment
Follow the amount, currency and payment method shown in Universitaly. Do not assume an older universal fee or a specific payment method.
Save every receipt
Keep the application PDF, payment receipt, transaction ID, centre choice, confirmation email and timestamp offline.
Test locations
IMAT is an in-person examination. The official table lists territories, while exact buildings, rooms and reporting times are released separately. Choose only the live options shown in Universitaly and check your host university's venue notice before booking travel.

Bring and protect
Bring the same valid original passport or ID used in the application, your Universitaly receipt, payment proof and any host-venue notice. Phones, smartwatches, notes, personal writing tools and other consultation material are prohibited.
